Washington Children’s Book Award Nominees

Washington Children’s Choice Picture Book Award (WCCPBA) Nominees for 2021

The WCCPBA is an award selected by Washington state children every spring.  Each year 20 picture books are nominated by teachers and librarians across the state.  These books are shared with students who eventually vote on their favorite title.  This year’s nominees are:

  • Be Kind  by Pat Zietlow Miller (Roaring Book Press)
  • Borrowing Bunnies: A Surprising Tale of Fostering Bunnies by Cynthia Lord (Farrar Straus Giroux)
  • Boy Who Invented the Popsicle: The Cool Science behind Frank Epperson’s Famous Frozen Trea t by Anne Renaud (Kids Can Press)
  • Cyril and Pat by Emily Gravett (Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers)
  • Don’t Call Me Bear! by Aaron Blabey (Scholastic Press)
  • Llama Destroys the World by Jonathan Stutzman (Henry Holt and Company)
  • Love, Z by Jessica Sima (Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers)
  • Magic Ramen: The Story of Momofuku Ando by Andrea Wang (Little Bee Books)
  • My Papi has a Motorcycle by Isabel Quintero (Kokila)
  • Ogilvy by Deborah Underwood (Godwin Books, Henry Holt and Company)
  • Once Upon a Goat by Dan Richards (Alfred A. Knopf)
  • Rescue and Jessica: A Life-Changing Friendship by Jessica Kensky (Candlewick Press)
  • A Royal Ride: Catherine the Great’s Great Invention by Kristen Fulton (Margaret K. McElderry Books)
  • Ruby Finds a Worry by Tom Percival (Bloomsbury Children’s Books)
  • Skulls! by Blair Thornburgh (Atheneum Books for Young Readers)
  • Sweety by Andrea Zuill (Schwartz & Wade Books)
  • Take Your Pet to School Day by Linda Ashman (Random House)

The OTTER Award Nominees for 2021

The OTTER Award (Our Time To Enjoy Reading) is an award selected by students each spring.  These books tend to be transitional chapter books for students who are building their reading stamina.  Many are the first in a series which allows kids to easily find their next read.  This year’s nominees are:
