    Dear Wedgwood Community,

Last spring at the PTA auction we asked the Wedgwood community to help raise $30,000 to brighten our school playground. Thanks to your generosity, we met that goal, and work began soon after on the first phase of improvements. We’re very excited to report on the progress we’ve made - and on what you can expect next.

We identified the playground as a funding need for several reasons. First, we believe safe, vibrant outdoor spaces for discovery, active play, and rejuvenation are essential parts of education. Second, the playground belongs to the whole school - a place enjoyed together by kids of all ages and backgrounds. Third, our playground really needed it! We’re so thrilled now to see the kids using the new soccer goals and equipment, and the fresh paint makes even concrete feel warm and welcoming.

    Building New Friendships
Perhaps nothing represents the spirit of inclusion and caring better than a buddy bench, a  place for all kids to find friends when they aren’t sure who to play with. Ms. Becker requested two buddy benches (and two more double sided benches) which were installed last week, along with three picnic tables for the garden (one is ADA friendly) and one near the main entrance - the perfect spot for teachers to take a well-deserved break.

    What’s Next for the Playground
The future of our playground is even brighter. We are currently working with the district on our remaining efforts, which include a mural on the west side of the school, a wall ball structure, and a more permanent spot for the very popular soccer goals.

    A True Team Effort
This project has been a team effort since the beginning. Serving as the Playground Committee Lead, parent volunteer Chantel Anderson has been working behind-the-scenes and on-the-ground, coordinating with Seattle Public Schools, obtaining approvals, and scheduling work crews, like the team from Premera that spent a full day painting as part of Seattle Works Day. Thank you to Chantel, Premera, and all the volunteers who have rolled up their sleeves so far!

    Want to Help?
The Playground Committee is looking for more hands to help make our playground a special place for our kids. If you are interested in lending your time to this project, please contact Chantel Anderson at

    Thank You!
We are grateful to everyone who has contributed to this ongoing effort. Our kids and teachers are already benefiting from your generosity. And, you've helped fund improvements that will continue to happen throughout the spring and beyond.

    Thank You,
    The Wedgwood PTA
