Greetings Wedgwood Families,
As you finish up the last few days of summer, I wanted to provide information related to the beginning of the
school year. It is possible that this email will not have all the answers you need, but I can assure you that as a
staff, we are working towards having a strong and welcoming start for all our students!
New Information:
- September 4–11 will be considered “Strong Start” days for fall of 2020. These first days of school will
ensure a strong foundation for the rest of the year. Two hours each day will be dedicated to “live” online
student supports. Educators will focus on supporting students’ social and emotional well-being,
community building, family connections, and technology access. For the remaining school hours,
educators will provide supplemental activities for each day of the first week. These activities will take
place offline and will be completed independently by students.
- We have learned that many of our devices are scheduled to arrive at Wedgwood around the 7th of
September. The exact delivery date is still unknown, but more information will be coming soon, and we
will work to distribute them to families as soon as we are able.
School Schedule:
Starting on September 4th through September 11th, students across the school district will receive two
hours on synchronous learning from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There will be a focus on social emotional
learning and digital citizenship. Starting Monday, September 14th students will transition to a regular
schedule starting at 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The school schedule will include synchronous learning, small
group learning and independent learning. Regardless of the teacher, students will have consistent
schedules and assignments.
- In collaboration with Seattle Schools guidance, the Wedgwood Leadership Team and staff are currently
developing a daily schedule and we will share details as soon as they are finalized.
The daily schedule for
instruction is as follows:
- Monday, Tuesday,
Thursday, Friday 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Wednesday 8:30 a.m. - 1:45 p.m.
Staff Professional Development:
Over the past two days, our staff have been thoughtfully engaged in new work around:
- Student Engagement
- Family Engagement
- Instructional Practice
- Alignment
- Being an Anti-Racist Organization
Teacher Assignment:
You will receive a Welcome Letter from your child’s classroom teacher on Monday afternoon (8/31)
around 4:00pm
- We are so excited to welcome everyone back to school on Friday September 4th for our Strong Start to
the new 2020-21 school year
Lastly, I would like to acknowledge that you may still have many questions, and the
PTA(https://www.wedgwoodpta.org/), Wedgwood Elementary (https://wedgwoodes.seattleschools.org/),
Seattle Schools websites (https://www.seattleschools.org/) are great ways to learn what is happening within
our community and within the district.
Thank you for your continued support!
We look forward to seeing everyone next Friday at 8:30AM!
Best,
Christy Smith
