Wedgwood Boundaries Update
As you all now know, on Friday evening November 1 at 7pm, Seattle Public schools released a new Growth Boundary Proposal (version 3) that significantly impacts Wedgwood. Many in our community have expressed shock at the dramatic nature of this 11th hour change after prior proposals had been under review for months.
A broad coalition within our community has come together to stand against the new boundaries. The work you've already done is greatly appreciated: over 250 individuals signed a petition declaring their opposition (click here if you haven't had a chance to sign), hundreds of e-mails have been sent to the School Board, and parents turned out in record numbers Monday night to attend a Call to Action meeting.
At this time, it seems two School Board members may introduce an amendment to Friday's proposal. We believe the amendment will revert to the previous version (version 2) of the boundary plan with some changes. Overall, this change would have broad support from the Wedgwood community, however only two of the seven board members have suggested support thus far. We need four votes for the amendment to pass.
So please, keep sending e-mails to the entire School Board (see sidebar) voicing your concerns about the plan released last Friday and attend the meeting at the John Stanford Center (2445 3rd Avenue South) this afternoon at 4:15 pm. We need to turn out in force so the School Board can see how many folks are dissatisfied with the November 1 boundary proposal. Lastly, the Seattle Council PTSA would like all parents to complete the survey that will be presented to the School Board later today.
Please visit our school site for more information, feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

And our pumpkin carving night coloring contest winner is...
Katie from Room 9! Congratulations to all our contestants on their lovely entries. A huge thank-you goes out to Heather Pruehs and the rest of the 1st grade parent volunteers for putting on a wonderful community-building evening of fun. The lit pumpkin display was a sight to behold.
All-school dance, come get your bling!
Next Wednesday, November 13 through Friday, November 15 (before and after school) your child can stock up on stickers for $.25, necklaces for $.50, and cool shades for $1.
Then Friday, November 15 from 6 to 8 pm they can deck themselves out as their favorite star/starlet, hero/heroine and dance the night away. Tickets are $2/person or $5/family. No child should come without an entourage! (Parental supervision required.) Just a few more volunteers needed, visit the Sign-Up Genius Page. Questions? E-mail Liz Huehnergarth.
- Don't forget to send your child with a food bank donation the night of the dance (See Announcement below) so they won't miss out on the extra give-away gift. That big plastic jar of peanut butter could add some real flair to their Hollywood attire!
Art Docents, just a few more needed
This PTA-sponsored program is a fine art appreciation curriculum taught by parent volunteers. Docents present an art print each month and lead the class in a discussion of the elements and artist, then create a project related to the discussion. The time commitment is 1 hour in the classroom plus prep time, which includes researching the artist and organizing the project. There are already many great prints and art supplies to use! Just two classrooms needing a docent remain:
Additionally, a number of classrooms have just one docent and two is preferable. If you are able to volunteer for this inspiring gig, please e-mail name, child's name/classroom#, and phone# to Kyra Mitchell.

Fourth grade See's Candy fundraiser on now
Wedgwood 4th graders take an annual trip to Olympia after studying a unit on Washington state government. Please support them as they work to earn enough for the charter buses required to get them there. From boxed chocolates to peanut brittle, See's Candy makes for wonderful holiday gifts. So don't wait in line at the mall, have it delivered to you at school all for a great cause! (Orders due Monday, December 2, candy will be delivered the week before winter break at the very latest.)
Help make a difference with the Food Drive
Wedgwood will be collecting donations for the Lake City Food Bank from November 15 through November 22. A donation box will be outside each classroom until the last collection day, November 22. Unopened, dry or canned food only please! We will also be collecting grocery gift cards. Every single donation helps and our combined donations will make a real difference - last year the food bank assisted over 3,000 families in need. Thank you in advance for your participation. Questions? E-mail Co-Chairs Yoko Shimomura or Don Taylor.

PTA seeking tax whiz!
Do you love to do taxes? Are you a skilled number-cruncher and experienced with a "990"? If so, the PTA is in need of your services! We are looking for someone to donate their time for preparation of a 990 tax return for a 501c3. There is the possibility of a tax write-off for the work as a donation to the school. Please e-mail Co-Treasurer Megan Wells.
The Source vs SchoolFusion confusion
SPS SourceSupport recently published a Q&A document (click here to download) they're hoping will help clear up any potential confusion surrounding these two on-line resources for families. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for additional assistance if questions remain after reading the Q&A.
Volunteer hours to report, can you help tally?
We already know Wedgwood has some of the most hard-working volunteers in the District! We've now been asked to start reporting the number of volunteer hours worked at our school each month. All volunteers (and visitors) are already asked to sign at the main office. Now you'll see an additional column at the end of the sign-in sheet to record the number of hours worked each time you volunteer.
- Everyone can help our office staff by remembering to fill this out. Additionally, one or two folks are needed to assist Joann and Diann in reviewing the sign-in sheets on a weekly/monthly basis and tallying total number of hours. If you have some time to help in this effort, please e-mail Beth Voelk or Davina Inslee.
